5 Things to Do in the Blue Mountains with Kids
10 October 2026 · 3 min read
Heading to the Blue Mountains with kids? There's so much more to do than just visit the Three Sisters! We've rounded up five family-friendly spots worth adding to your next trip, from a quirky bakery and steam train ride to a hotel packed with activities for kids.
1. Bon Bakery Cafe, Katoomba
This isn't your average bakery! Bon Bakery has a colourful, playful setup with photo spots, a carousel and even a playground for the kids. There's plenty to look at before you've even ordered, making it a fun stop for breakfast, morning tea or something sweet.
Location: 176 Lurline Street, Katoomba
2. Fairmont Resort, Leura
You could easily spend an entire day entertaining the kids here without leaving the hotel. Fairmont Resort has an ice skating rink, motorboats, indoor and outdoor pools, playgrounds, a giant slide, mirror maze, arcade games, indoor cinema and even a huge fish tank. There are activities for different ages, making it a great choice for a family getaway, especially when the weather isn't on your side. Some activities cost extra or operate at selected times, so check ahead.
3. Zig Zag Railway, Clarence
A fun experience for little train lovers! Climb aboard a historic steam train and travel along the famous Zig Zag Railway, with beautiful mountain scenery along the way. The journey includes a stop before returning to Clarence Station, so allow plenty of time for the whole experience. Tickets need to be booked in advance, and it's worth arriving early so you're not rushing to board.
4. Echo Point, Katoomba
You can't visit the Blue Mountains without stopping to see the Three Sisters! Echo Point is one of the most famous lookouts in the area, offering incredible views across the Jamison Valley. It's an easy sightseeing stop with kids, and the viewing platforms are a great place to take a family photo. You don't need to commit to a long bushwalk to enjoy the views.
5. The Yellow Deli, Katoomba
This has to be one of the most unusual places to stop for lunch in the Blue Mountains. Walking inside feels a little like stepping into a treehouse or something out of Harry Potter, with winding wooden details and cosy little spaces. It's worth visiting for the setting alone, but you can also stop for sandwiches, soups and something to eat before heading off on your next adventure.
Location: 214 Katoomba Street, Katoomba
A Few Extra Food Stops
Jiggle: Shout out to Jiggle for a great, fun meal with the kids. A good one to add to your list if you're looking for somewhere different for a family meal.
Café Laurel: Another lovely spot for a feed before heading over to Echo Point to see the Three Sisters.
